Monthly freight flows between the US and its NAFTA partners Canada and Mexico was stagnant in November, but up 10.5% from a year earlier.
According to data from the Bureau of Transportation, US freight flows within the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) region totalled US$100.6bn in November, virtually unchanged from October.
From October to November 2017 the value of total US trade with Canada was up 1.6% to $51.3bn, and was up 11.2% year-on-year.
US trade with Mexico meanwhile, was valued at $49.4bn in November, down 3% from October but up 9.7% percent from October last year.
Talks between Mexico, Canada and the US to renegotiate the terms of the North American Free Trade Agreement began in August last year and are still underway, although concerns have been expressed by the US at the lack of progress.
The sixth round of renegotiations concluded this week with US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer once again expressing concerns over the slow progress of the talks and addressing the so-called “misunderstanding” that the US is being unfair in the negotiations.
