Lectra has opened a new Innovation Lab as its technology campus at Bordeaux-Cestas in France as part of a bid to rethink the fashion industry value chain.
The lab has been created by Lectra’s vice president of innovation, Philippe Ribera, and aims to capture emerging trends, anticipate evolutions and enhance its future technological solutions.
The Innovation Lab teams will work in collaboration with start-ups, research centres, customers and Lectra employees, with the first innovations due to focus on the fashion industry as it relates to the final consumer.
Various proof of concept (POC) demonstrations include key aspects of brand creation or product development, while for manufacturers, an augmented reality tool has been developed to support cutter maintenance.
Meanwhile, the Innovation Lab’s work on fabric types and body measurements has also accelerated the ‘Digtex’ project, which focuses on the digitalisation of textile development, and was launched by Lectra and the Centre Européen des Textiles Innovants (CETI), as well as the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts et Industries Textiles (ENSAIT). It is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the
Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.
This research, inspired by the issues faced by Lectra’s customers, aims to provide them with practical and innovative solutions such as involving the end consumer in the creation of customised clothing or strengthening the traceability of clothing.

By GlobalData“Innovation, particularly disruptive innovation, implies a real cultural transformation within the company. One cannot simply will it into existence. The Innovation Lab teams have understood this well: they are making tangible advances in strengthening Lectra’s and our employees’ commitment to follow this path and lead our customers toward success,” says Véronique Zoccoletto, chief transformation officer at Lectra.
