New partnership to boost 3D footwear scanning

By Giacomo Lee 08 Mar 2019

3D scanning and footwear software company Volumental is partnering with software firm HP Inc and insole manufacturer Superfeet to bring on-demand personalised footwear to consumers.

The move will see Volumental add the capabilities of Fitstation, a personalised footwear manufacturing platform, to its existing 3D scanning retail solution to create what it says will be “the best combined footwear recommendation and personalisation retail solution available on the market”.

Powered by HP, Fitstation combines 3D foot scanning with gait analysis and foot pressure measurements to produce one-of-a-kind holistic digital profiles of an individual.

“The resulting solution will serve the growing need for personalised products among footwear brands and retailers while keeping the best-in-class customer experience the modern shopper demands,” Volumental said.

The company’s own 3D scanner is capable of gathering ten different foot measurements in just five seconds, collecting all of the data required for its AI-powered Fit Engine to offer personalised footwear recommendations.

Now, its decision to partner with HP and Superfeet, which is working to take insoles and footwear from mass-produced products to personalised solutions, will create new scanning capabilities for performance footwear specialist Fleet Fleet, which will be the first retailer to debut the solution in stores across the US.
