A new multi-stakeholder initiative is taking shape to help find operational solutions and define effective actions on ocean plastic pollution.
Led by Swiss consultancies Quantis and Shaping Environmental Action: EA, the Plastic Leak Project will take an in-depth look at the circular economy of plastics, assess existing knowledge gaps, and find, compare and develop relevant solutions, using a collaborative approach.

Quantis is already an endorser of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s New Plastics Economy Global Commitment which has been signed by apparel brands including Burberry, H&M and Inditex and aims to eradicate plastic packaging waste and pollution.
“The scale of the problem is significant, but there is limited information and ready solutions available to support organisations in their efforts to turn the tide on ocean plastics,” Quantis says.
The Plastic Leak Project, which launches in 2019, will measure leakage from circular plastics economies, and claims to provide meaningful metrics for products, companies and governments.
It also aims to evaluate and develop scalable solutions to reach near-zero plastic leakage and guide companies to move from assumption-based to fact-based actions.
