An Australian online pattern company claims to be the first business of its kind to provide custom sportswear companies with access to thousands of commercial ready, premium western sized clothing patterns that can be downloaded for immediate use.
Offering a catalogue of professionally fitted patterns that have been designed by in-house fashion technicians, Pattern Room was founded last year by Julia Van Der Sommen to help mitigate the challenges commonly experienced during the sample process.
“In this sector, we often see fashion brands and sportswear companies blindsided by unexpected high production costs, lengthy lead times and minimum quantity requirements that are just not able to be met,” she says. “These hurdles are the essence of why we created Pattern Room in the first place; as a modern antidote to the traditional experience.”
Not only does the conventional pattern making process have the potential to create significant financial strain, quality control issues and delays on delivery, but it also increases waste output with discarded sample product adding to landfill.
“We have an ongoing responsibility to acknowledge the adverse impact the clothing and textile industries continue to have on the environment,” Van Der Sommen adds.
“There needs to be accountability, which is reflected in Pattern Room’s overall ethos and offerings; we like to think of our technology as a disrupter within an industry long examined for its collective social conscious and approach to sustainability.”
