The initiative is a key component of Bestseller’s broader strategy to incorporate textile-to-textile recycled polyester into its supply chain and the first styles are now available in stores.

RE&UP says it employs both mechanical and thermo-chemical processes within its modular technology system to separate and regenerate cotton and polyester fibres.

This approach allows the creation of ‘new’ high-quality recycled cotton and polyester.

ONLY sourcing process manager Pernille Tøttrup said: “RE&UP shares our dedication to innovation and quality, and its textile-to-textile recycled polyester meets the high standards we set for our products. This enables us to create garments made from worn-out clothing and factory textile waste, while offering the same performance and durability as if it were made from virgin polyester.”

In the initial phase of the project, 11 styles have been transitioned from conventional to recycled polyester provided by RE&UP, with most of these designs being exclusively launched in ONLY’s retail stores.

This change represents an output of over 100,000 t-shirts, with RE&UP aiming to process 1m tonnes of textile waste by 2030.

RE&UP CCO Ozgur Atsan stated: “This collaboration shows that textile-to-textile recycling is not a distant ambition, it’s already delivering industry-ready, cost-competitive fibres. Transforming the industry is undoubtedly a complex and lengthy process, but by working with partners like ONLY, we demonstrate how recycled polyester from textile waste can be a real and scalable alternative to virgin materials.”

Bestseller is actively incorporating recycled materials into its collections across various brands, including its “Never Out Of Stock” (NOOS) range.

The company’s investment in partnerships with innovative technology firms is geared towards ensuring both innovation in materials and scalability in production processes.

Earlier this year, Bestseller’s menswear brand Jack & Jones also made strides in sustainability by converting a NOOS bumper jacket style ‘Rush’ to use recycled polyester, impacting 150,000 garments.

“We are actively reshaping our approach to materials, prioritising a shift from conventional to organic cotton and from virgin to recycled polyester,” Bestseller sustainability manager Dorte Rye Olsen said.

By the end of 2025, Bestseller aims for 50% of its polyester usage to come from recycled or alternative sources, a goal supported by increased supplier collaboration and supply chain transparency.

Bestseller is also incentivising its employees through a bonus scheme tied to achieving sustainability targets.

The company plans to update its ‘Fashion FWD’ strategy with a new 2030 target for recycled polyester that will focus on integrating next-gen innovative materials into production processes.

Last month, Bestseller forged a new partnership with the German cleantech company Matterr to boost recycling of polyester.
