European outdoor clothing specialist Montane has been acquired by Edinburgh-based specialist consumer brand investor Inverleith LLP.
The transaction has been made for an undisclosed sum and sees Inverleith take a majority stake in the UK-based brand.
Founded over 25 years ago, Montane is a leading specialist brand of lightweight, breathable outdoor clothing and equipment for fast-paced mountain sports such as hillwalking, mountaineering, climbing, and trail running.
The company targets, specifically, the high-performance segments of the outdoor markets, and is a sponsor of a number of global events, including Tor des Géants, The Montane Lakeland 100, and The Montane Yukon Arctic Ultra.
The investment from Inverleith will see the company expand the distribution of its mountain sport products both in the UK and internationally, with a sharpened focus on product development in what it says is a “rapidly growing” market.
“After over two decades at the helm, it is time to hand over the reins of Montane to a passionate new owner who recognises the strength of Montane’s differentiated position, who shares the company’s values and beliefs and who has the consumer and commercial expertise to help steer the company to its next level of growth,” Montane’s managing director Jake Doxat.
