The Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) has launched two new models under its Higg Index suite of tools which enables brands, retailers, and facilities of all sizes to accurately measure and score a company or product’s sustainability performance.

The Higg Index is the core driver of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition’s vision of an apparel, footwear, and textile industry that produces no unnecessary environmental harm and has a positive impact on the people and communities associated with its activities.

Developed by the coalition of members, the Index recently underwent an update to enable suppliers to share sustainability performance information about their materials with brands and retailers.

Now, SAC has launched two new modules: the Higg Facility Social & Labour Module (Higg FSLM); and an updated Higg Facility Environmental Module (Higg FEM).

Higg FSLM introduces the first standardised assessment to measure social and labour impacts across the value chain, SAC says. The tool is dedicated to promoting safe and fair social and labour conditions for supply chain workers globally and enables manufacturing facilities to measure their social impacts across the value chain. It also assesses the efficacy of social management programmes and is appropriate for any tier of manufacturing.

The Higg FEM, meanwhile, informs brands, retailers, and manufacturers about the environmental performance of their individual facilities, so they can make improvements that reduce negative impacts. This module can be used by manufacturers at any tier of the apparel, footwear, and textile industry supply chain.
