Inspection, testing and certification company SGS is now operating what it says is the first accredited textile laboratory in Madagascar.
The company’s textile and garment testing laboratory opened in Madagascar in July 2013 to service local garment manufacturers wishing to comply with international regulations and requirements.

It has now been accredited against ISO/IEC 17025:2005, which specifies the general requirements for the competence to carry out tests and/or calibrations, including sampling. It covers testing and calibration performed using standard methods, non-standard methods, and laboratory-developed methods.
In addition to its advanced equipment and range of services, SGS says the internationally recognised accreditation will enable it to guarantee the quality and integrity of its services in Madagascar and to strengthen customer confidence.
“In any certification and accreditation process, getting the certificate is just the starting point,” says Cédric Catheline, managing director of SGS in Madagascar. “It officially confirms the company’s commitment to comply with the standards, but it also implies it will be necessary to double our efforts to keep on top and to maintain this accreditation, and to gradually expand the scope.”
The 160 sq m facility offers physical testing for a board range of apparel and textile products, as well as quality inspection, compliance audits, factory assessment and loading supervision.
