Hong Kong-based manufacturing giant TAL Apparel has partnered with Bluesign Technologies to strengthen transparency throughout its clothing and textile supply chain.

As brands and retailers are recognising the value of transparency in every tier of their supply chain, the partnership aims to build trust, synergies and collaboration for chemical management, the company says.

“We strive to be a leading sustainable manufacturer,” says Delman Lee, president and CTO of TAL Apparel. “We work diligently on the details and celebrate achieving real and credible impacts.”

The Bluesign System eliminates harmful substances at the start of the manufacturing process, and it sets and monitors standards for environmentally friendly and safe production. This ensures textile end products meet very stringent consumer safety requirements worldwide, and gives consumers the confidence of purchasing sustainable products.

The safety and security afforded throughout the Bluesign assessment and verification process is made possible by a closed circle of highly trained specialists. This ensures the integrity of intellectual property while establishing the desired transparency for brands and consumers, who have the highest expectations for responsibly made and safe products without compromising on quality or design, the two companies say.

Most notably, the partnership is a reflection of the trend of premium brands to incorporate transparency into their business strategy.

“I appreciate the time and care that TAL has taken in making the decision to partner with Bluesign,” adds Jill Dumain, CEO of bluesign technologies. “This allows our partnership to be founded on strong mutual trust and respect for each other’s business practices and greater mission.”

An estimated one of every six dress shirts sold in the US is made by TAL. Earlier this year, the company became one of the latest to join Global Fashion Agenda’s associate partners circle, where it will contribute insights from various parts of the supply chain.
