Textile and fibre company Teijin has developed a polyester high-gauge knitting fabric laminated with a breathable film that it says can produce lightweight functional textiles for use in sportswear.

Teijin Frontier Co, the Teijin Group’s fibre-product converting company, says it will release the new material in time for 2019 spring/summer collections, mainly for sports apparel.

Textiles laminated with breathable film are widely used for high-functional sportswear due to their breathability, waterproofness, and stretchability.

Teijin’s new material has been developed with dyeing and lamination technologies to produce a high-gauge knitting material using non-crimped thread, which can often have limitations when relatively light or thin materials are sought.

According to the firm, the polyester knitting fabric is thin, lightweight and compact as well as stretchable, form-stable and moisture-permeable.
