Two of Australia’s textile and fashion industry organisations are to merge, saying the move will result in a more influential body that is aligned around helping all parts of the industry ecosystem to grow.
The Australian Fashion Chamber, which represents Australian designers and the fashion industry, and the Council for Textile and Fashion, a not-for-profit organisation whose purpose is to promote the growth of the textile and fashion industries in Australia, made the announcement at a Fashion Forum yesterday (18 October).

The merged organisation will have offices and staff in both Melbourne and Sydney, as well as a growing textile and fashion industry network around Australia. Its aim is to connect and assist members with advice and knowledge in areas such as strengthening supply chains, growing exports, and developing industry best practice in sustainable and ethical product.
A joint statement said the merger was also an opportunity for the Australian industry to “become an even more dynamic force of creativity, innovation and trade.”
“This marks a turning point for Australian industry and comes at a timely moment to strategically shape our future across the whole spectrum of design and textiles,” says John Condilis, CTF chair and managing director of Nobody Denim.
The proposal will be voted on at each organisation’s annual general meeting at the end of the year.
