UK: Nike Kicks Out Manchester United Rumour
Sportswear manufacturer Nike today denied rumours that it has agreed a £300,000 kit deal with top football team, Manchester United. A Nike spokesman said the company is constantly talking to football clubs, including Manchester United, but "nothing had been signed". "It's pure press speculation", said the spokesman. One press story said it was believed that the US giant had agreed a 15-year deal with the Premiership champions. Manchester United still has two years left to run on its current contract with Umbro. Nike has close links with the football team - at least four Old Trafford stars, Andy Cole, Paul Scholes, Dwight Yorke and Teddy Sheringham wear Nike football boots.
