The twelfth edition of the American Apparel & Footwear Association’s (AAFA) Restricted Substances List (RSL) release has been updated to reflect changes spurred by REACH, the new EU chemicals legislation, as well as other state and international regulations.

Covering apparel, footwear, travel goods, home textiles, and other fashion accessories, the list is a useful tool as part of an overall chemical management programme.

“AAFA remains committed to providing the U.S. apparel and footwear industry with a variety of tools to help make sound sourcing decisions,” said AAFA president and CEO Kevin Burke.

“Now in its twelfth publication, the AAFA Restricted Substances List assists the industry in creating an even safer and more sustainable supply chain.” 

First released in 2007, the list covers chemicals and other substances whose presence in a product is restricted through a government regulation or law. It identifies the most restrictive iteration of that regulation worldwide.

Available in four languages – English, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Spanish – the publication is reviewed and updated every six months, with the latest version available for free on the AAFA website.
