German outdoor clothing company Vaude has launched a comprehensive supplier management programme to provide support to its international producers and material suppliers in ensuring high ecological and social standards throughout its supply chain.

The programme, which is known internationally as vendor management, is based on three pillars: social responsibility, quality management and environmental management. It was launched during a recent meeting of strategic producers and suppliers – including 64 representatives from Vietnam, China and Taiwan, representing most of the supply chain – at the firm’s headquarters in Tettnang, Germany.

Vaude describes its supply chain as complex, international and presenting many ecological and social challenges, and says that to ensure fair working conditions, environmental friendliness and high quality, it has developed a system to guide and support suppliers.

It also says that while it has no direct business relationship with upstream stages of the value chain such as textile manufacturers, the company offers full transparency and works closely with producers as well as their upstream suppliers.
