WRAP’s UK Textiles Pact rebrand follows the establishment of Textiles 2030 in April 2021, which itself was a successor to the Sustainable Clothing Action Plan 2020 (SCAP 2020).

The rebranding aligns UK Textiles Pact with WRAP’s other flagship voluntary agreements, including the UK Food & Drink Pact and the UK Plastics Pact.

The shift to the UK Textiles Pact has occurred nine months after WRAP’s strategic rebranding, emphasising its global commitment to promoting Circular Living across corporate strategies and household practices.

The core objectives of the pact remain unchanged despite the change in the name. Signatories continue their pledge to:

  • Slash the carbon footprint of newly marketed textile products by 50%
  • Cut down on the water footprint of newly marketed textile products by 30%
  • Collaborate within the industry to fulfil the goals set out in the Circularity Roadmap.

More than 130 entities spanning the fashion and textile supply chain, along with various trade organisations and non-profits, have joined forces under this pact to engage in collective action.

The UK Government’s Environment Secretary Steve Reed has also expressed his continued endorsement of this initiative. In a March address to industry representatives concerning the Circular Economy Taskforce, Reed highlighted that strategies for textiles would incorporate leveraging ‘Textiles 2030’.

The UK Textiles Pact, a key part of WRAP’s Textiles Action Network, facilitates international collaboration by sharing knowledge and best practices. The network aims to guide the textiles industry towards net-zero carbon emissions by transitioning to a circular economy model.

Furthermore, experiences and insights gained from activities within the UK Textiles Pact contribute to The G7 Agenda on Circular Textiles and Fashion. WRAP plays a significant role as one of the Joint Action Leads for this agenda.

UK Textiles Pact programme lead Mark Sumner said: “For businesses, membership to the UK Textiles Pact unlocks interaction with WRAP’s team of experts to help solve problems, plus it gives access to evidence-based tools, practical resources and collaborative working groups to tackle urgent sustainability challenges facing the textiles sector. The UK Textiles Pact is a collaborative, non-competitive and trusted network underpinned by innovation, expertise and collective determination.”

The rebranding of the UK Textiles Pact coincides with a comprehensive refresh of WRAP’s corporate identity, encompassing both visual and verbal elements.

In February this year, WRAP, in collaboration with prominent resale and repair enterprises, revealed the significant influence various circular economy models are exerting in reducing the demand for new clothing.
