Zurich-based investor Collateral Good led the funding with Nordic Butterfly Ventures as a co-lead investor. E.A.T. Holdings, FF-Future, Nordic Option, and FutureLab-X also joined the financing round.

Based in Oulu, the circular materials and green chemistry company focuses on sustainable innovation.

The company's proprietary BrightBio technology is used to create renewable and fully recyclable advanced bio-sourced materials. The technology repurposes industrial by-products into raw materials.

Brightplus products encompass liquid coatings, bioplastics, and bespoke biomaterial solutions, all designed to meet or surpass the functionality of traditional materials while considerably mitigating environmental footprints.

With this latest round of funding, Brightplus plans to scale up its BrightBio coating technology from pilot to full industrial production levels.

A crucial aspect of this scale-up involves tailoring formulations to leverage locally available raw materials such as agricultural biowaste or CO₂-derived inputs near production sites.

The company plans to leverage digital tools for recipe management and process oversight.

Brightplus chief technology officer and co-founder Jarkko Leivo said: “Pure water is one of the most precious resources on the planet. That’s why BrightBio was designed as a fully waterless solution. It sets a new standard for ethical, regulation-ready coated textiles. Our one-layer tech delivers multiple performance features fitting seamlessly into the existing workflows without the burden of green premium.”

Through its initiative known as Brightplus Kitchen and through strategic partnerships with major industry players, the firm is pushing forward material science innovations that support sustainability across various industries.

The company holds Oeko-Tex Class 1 certification, which ensures product safety for sensitive skin types, absence of harmful chemicals, and adherence to stringent safety protocols for both human health and environmental protection.

Brightplus CEO Milja Hannu-Kuure said: “We have deep understanding of different sustainable raw materials and how to combine them into functional solutions and recipes that deliver performance without compromise. Safe, European-sourced raw materials are also a key advantage that helps us stand out in the international market. We have proven the effectiveness of our technology in pilot projects with leading brands, and we are now ready to scale this sustainable vision into practice.”
