İHKİB gets EU funding to drive Turkish textile sector eco transition

At the 17th edition of the symposium, themed “Green Future Vision in Textiles: Climate-Friendly Solutions and Digitalisation”, İHKİB’s subsidiary Ekoteks hosted discussions among bureaucrats, international stakeholders, global brand representatives, and academics on sustainable production practices.

Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) and İHKİB chairman Mustafa Gültepe highlighted the importance of transformation across all sectors to enhance Türkiye's export potential to the EU and other global markets.

“42% of our total exports, 60% of our apparel exports, and nearly 40% of our textile exports are destined for EU countries. We want not only our textile and apparel industries, but all of our sectors, to capture a larger share of this major market. That is precisely why we must realise the twin transition. Because ahead of us lies the European Green Deal, which serves as the constitution of this transformation,” Gültepe said.

According to Gültepe, both TİM and İHKİB are collaborating with Turkish ministries and the EU to expedite this transition through joint projects. He noted that İHKİB has completed several projects, continues to run others, and is preparing new initiatives.

One of the completed projects is METAMORPHOSIS, which is funded by the EU Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) and focused on digitalising apparel production processes.

İHKİB also established the Digital Transformation Center (DDM), which provides services and consultancy to assist companies with digital transformation.

Additionally, İHKİB has secured EU funding for the Manufacturing Industry Digitalization and Innovation Service Network (MİDAS) Project, which was launched in May 2025.

This project aims to bolster Türkiye's fashion industry by enhancing digital and green production capacities and promoting branded production.

To further support sector awareness, İHKİB organises training programmes on topics such as corporate carbon footprint measurement, product lifecycle analysis, and climate change.

The association also offers guidance through environmentally friendly manufacturing facilities and has made its Green Transition Guide available online.

In June this year, İHKİB and the Bilişim Vadisi -Technology Development Zone signed a ‘cooperation protocol’ to elevate the Turkish apparel industry's position in the international market.
