Lectra has unveiled VectorFashion iX2 and VectorFashion Q2, two cutting equipment solutions that it says will transform the way fashion manufacturers operate, particularly in adapting to the growing demand for small scale production.

Lectra notes that as the fashion industry moves toward making capsule collections and having frequent product rotations, manufacturers face the challenge of producing smaller volumes of the same design. In other words this means there is an increase in the number of orders to process and materials to cut.

Lectra's chief product officer Maximilien Abadie explains the significance of these new solutions for fashion manufacturers: “As economies of scale are increasingly difficult to achieve, fashion manufacturers need to gain flexibility while controlling the costs associated with the production of the orders they receive. With optimised running costs and enhanced performance, the new generation of VectorFashion iX2 and VectorFashion Q2 cutting solutions offers them a better return on investment and helps them increase their margins while also reducing their environmental footprint.”

Lectra outlines the benefits of VectorFashion iX2 and VectorFashion Q2:

  • New standards for electronic cards
  • Integration of motion detection radars
  • Reduced equipment noise levels to ensure optimum operator experience
  • Minimising downtime
  • Built-in sensors that enable a high level of connectivity, making them fully compatible with Industry 4.0.
  • Manufacturers can leverage data intelligence to enhance process efficiency, boost productivity, improve product quality, and meet future challenges head-on
  • Digital content for predictive maintenance, empowering manufacturers with greater autonomy.
  • Maintenance operations are halved, resulting in reduced consumable costs and significantly increased equipment availability compared to previous generations.

Lectra says it has prioritised eco-design principles in the development of its new cutting equipment solutions. VectorFashion iX2 and VectorFashion Q2 are said to consume 30% to 40% less energy compared to their predecessors, making them more energy-efficient.

Additionally, these next-gen solutions weigh 200kg less and have a more compact size, significantly reducing the carbon footprint associated with transportation, production and maintenance.

Lectra joined the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) in June to contribute to a more sustainable future.
