Patagonia adopts Trove resale Plugin

Patagonia has implemented Trove’s new Resale Plugin, a tool that allows the sustainable apparel brand to integrate pre-owned items alongside new products on its e-commerce site, offering shoppers a streamlined way to browse both options as part of its expanded Worn Wear programme.

The Resale Plugin comes equipped with features such as smart inventory control, which allows brands to manage pre-owned stock without impacting new product launches, making it a useful solution for filling inventory gaps or showcasing past-season items.

“Brands can choose to show exact matches, similar items, or past-season stock, allowing them to start at their preferred level and control what customers see," said Terry Boyle CEO of Trove.

Flexible placement options enable brands to feature pre-owned products on product detail or landing pages, with cross-platform compatibility supporting major platforms like Shopify, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, and BigCommerce. The plugin can be deployed within two weeks, making it a quick-to-launch option for brands.

Patagonia, a leader in sustainable fashion, is an early adopter of the plugin for its Worn Wear programme. The brand uses the plugin to integrate used items alongside new products, promoting lower-impact shopping options for customers while maintaining the same quality and service standards.

Sam Brown, Patagonia’s head of resale, stated that the plugin brings resale closer to the core of Patagonia’s business, reinforcing their commitment to sustainable growth.

Brown continued: “Through Worn Wear, it’s our goal to provide customers with lower-impact choices, underpinned by the same level of quality and service customers expect when shopping for new Patagonia products— we believe this is achieved by the plugin and a more cohesive shopping experience between new and used.”

Trove’s mission is to help brands of all sizes grow their businesses without increasing their carbon emissions and the company believes that by using the Resale Plugin, brands can make resale more profitable and accessible to shoppers.

“In today’s economic climate, where consumers are shopping more thoughtfully, the Resale Plugin helps brands attract new customers and increase loyalty,” Boyle added. “It’s an ideal time for brands to integrate resale into their e-commerce strategy.”

In August, Trove acquired competitor Recurate, which was said to give the company oversight of more than 75% of the branded resale market in the US.
