Textile Exchange launches Regenerative Agriculture Outcome Framework

Textile Exchange has launched the first phase of the Regenerative Agriculture Outcome Framework, which aims to help the fashion, textile, and apparel industry align on outcomes for assessing the holistic impacts of regenerative agriculture.

The regenerative agriculture framework is designed to respect the inherent place-based nature of these agricultural systems, allowing those in different regions and at different stages of their journey to select indicators that work for them.

The open-source platform lays out key indicators that make for a regenerative agriculture system – encouraging collaboration by including expectations for both brands and growers.

“We have developed this first version through a rigorous, research-based, and collaborative process. We welcome everyone to test the framework and provide your input on how it can be strengthened in future versions. Feedback on the testing will be shared via the Textile Exchange Cotton and Animal Fibers Round Tables as well as the broader Regenerative Agriculture Community of Practice,” Textile Exchange said.

Last month Textile Exchange announced a partnership with the Leather Working Group which saw the launch of the Deforestation-Free Call to Action for Leather.

Brands that join the initiative are expected to take several measures, including setting leather sourcing requirements, mapping supply chains to the slaughterhouse level, making financial investments to increase the supply of traceable and deforestation-free leather, implementing traceability systems, and committing to respect human rights throughout the entire bovine leather supply chain. Progress will be reported annually through Textile Exchange’s Materials Benchmark and the Leather Working Group’s Sourcing Declaration.
