Dubbed Toray MAS Apparel India, the JV was formalised during a signing ceremony held in June at the MAS Head Office in Colombo, Sri Lanka, in the presence of Toray Hong Kong managing director Teruo Funahashi and MAS Holdings CEO Suren Fernando.

The JV will develop a new manufacturing facility within the upcoming MAS Apparel Park Bhuinpur in Odisha, India.

Construction for the park started in March 2025 with the facility's operations projected to begin in early 2026.

The new establishment is designed to serve existing and prospective clients in the area, fulfilling the increasing need for high-quality textile products.

Toray's Funahashi said: “Toray MAS Apparel India will contribute to local employment and economic growth by manufacturing advanced, top-quality offerings. The company will serve as a garment stronghold in India for Toray and MAS Holdings, reinforcing their partnership by deploying strategies that capitalise on their capabilities.”

Toray MAS Apparel India will leverage MAS Holdings’ experience in apparel manufacturing, and Toray Industries’ advanced material technologies to deliver new products. It is also expected to encourage economic development and job creation in the Indian state of Odisha.

The upcoming operation will integrate renewable energy solutions like rooftop solar panels, employ energy-efficient technologies throughout its processes, and implement advanced water and wastewater management systems.

Additionally, the design of the facility prioritises universal accessibility and environmentally responsible waste and chemical management practices.

MAS' Fernando stated: "The Odisha facility will play a key role in supporting our customers’ evolving needs, driving innovation and contributing to regional economic development. In today’s global economic landscape, strategic partnerships like this are key to enhancing our capabilities and continuing to deliver value-added solutions to our customers."

In May this year, MAS Holdings through its subsidiary, MAS ACME USA, established a strategic alliance with Kornit Digital to boost agility in fashion production.
