This development in the Dominican Republic represents a key step in World Emblem's nearshoring strategy, which includes relocating a portion of its production closer to the US.

Located within the Tamboril Free Trade Zone of Santiago de los Caballeros, the new factory is intended to bolster World Emblem’s supply chain management, improve operational efficiencies, and facilitate growth.

World Emblem chief executive officer Randy Carr told Just Style: “We selected the Dominican Republic after asking ChatGPT to suggest a hospitable country to open a new factory and do business, based on our industry.

“After visiting the island and experiencing first-hand its business-friendly environment, skilled workforce, and proximity to our clients in the United States, we knew we made the right choice. As we look to further expand the range of products and services we provide to new and existing customers, our factory in the Dominican Republic will enable us to strengthen our supply chain, enhance efficiency, and continue to grow the company.”

The 100,000ft2 factory is expected to employ about 100 individuals at the outset, with the potential to generate a total of 500 jobs.

Construction of the facility is planned to be completed early next year.

Earlier this year, Carr began exploring opportunities for global expansion that led to this development.

A long-term lease for the facility was signed in June.

“With our skilled and growing workforce, strong partnership with the US, and proximity to World Emblem’s customers, our country is the ideal place for the company to continue to grow its business,” said Victor (Ito) Bisonó, Minister of industry and commerce of the Dominican Republic, at the time of signing the lease agreement.

Based in South Florida, World Emblem produces nearly 250m items annually for various applications, including sports headwear, footwear, uniforms, and other apparel segments.

The company leverages advanced equipment and technology for crafting customised emblems and multi-textured products. Its client base spans North America with brands such as New Era, Vestis, Cintas, and Levi’s.

In addition to its new Dominican Republic location, World Emblem operates facilities in Georgia, Texas, California, Mexico, and Canada.
