The updated accord took effect on 1 January 2026, following confirmation from over 100 international brands and retailers that they have re-signed, with more brands expected to finalise their participation.

The renewed agreement maintains its “current form” and has been extended until 31 December 2026, according to a statement from the International Accord.

It will then be automatically renewed for an additional three years, through to 31 December 2029, to remain aligned with the International Accord framework.

Negotiators reaffirmed their commitment to workplace safety throughout the supply chains of participating brands in Pakistan.

Under the arrangement, factory safety programmes at sourcing suppliers for signatory brands will continue.

The provisions include independent inspections, remediation processes, safety training, and a mechanism for workers to submit complaints regarding health and safety issues.

“We look forward to continuing to work alongside signatories, suppliers, and local government stakeholders to promote a safer and more sustainable textile and garment industry in Pakistan,” International Accord said.

The Pakistan Accord is a legally binding arrangement involving UNI, IndustriALL, and more than 140 global brands aimed at safeguarding health and safety for workers in Pakistan’s textile and garment sector.

It requires factories to implement fire, electrical, structural, and boiler safety protocols.

Workers receive information on their rights, responsibilities, potential hazards, and evacuation plans, while having access to an official complaints channel.

The accord also encourages wider safety improvements through collaboration with local institutions.

In October 2025, a Brand Supplier Roundtable hosted by the Pakistan Accord called for increased cooperation between brands and suppliers as well as enhanced technical capacity to strengthen health and safety standards in Pakistan’s textile sector.
