The textile sector accounts for around 57% of Pakistan’s exports and 40% of the industrial workforce, but rising costs and tougher global competition are becoming increasing challenges for the industry as a whole.

“Sharing a common vision of a stronger textile sector in Pakistan, Huntsman Textile Effects and ICI Pakistan are combining our resources to respond to this important market with greater speed, more flexibility and a higher standard of service,” says Chuck Hirsch, vice president, commercial and technical resources, Huntsman Textile Effects.

Pakistan’s readymade garment and textile exports saw growth of 11% and nearly 9%, respectively, in the last fiscal year, but business is hampered by safety/security issues and the sector faces mounting pressure from Asian competitors.

According to an overview of Pakistan on re:source, the new online strategic planning tool from the team behind just-style, the country is the world’s fourth-largest cotton producer, one of the world’s largest cotton users, and the sixth largest textile exporter.

Its current Textile Policy, which runs from 2015-2019, aims to double textile and clothing exports to US$26bn by 2019.
