San Francisco-based fit technology company Bold Metrics has developed a Smart Size Chart that uses machine learning technology to connect shoppers to clothing that fits according to their personal preference.

Its aim is to eliminate guesswork when it comes to deciding what size might fit best when shopping online, and avoid the need to make multiple purchases to find the one that is most comfortable.

“This is just not sustainable, and it takes the pleasure out of shopping online,” the company explains.

“By helping to reduce apparel returns by up to 30% or more, we help brands cut down on carbon emissions from transporting returns, and prevent unnecessary fit-related returns from ending up in incinerators or landfills. Our data-backed actionable insights also help brands to become more sustainable in their apparel manufacturing approach.”

The Smart Size Chart shows exactly where clothes will be loose, tight – and just right.

For example, a size 6 dress might fit a customer best across all garment dimensions but may be a little tight around the stomach area. The Smart Size Chart shows where the dress is tight or loose, so the customer can decide based on their unique fit preference.
