Sales and Related Occupations drive ecommerce-related hiring activity

Sales and Related Occupations, with a share of 22%, emerged as the top ecommerce-related job roles within the apparel industry in Q1 2023, with new job postings drop by 3% quarter-on-quarter. Management Occupations came in second with a share of 20% in Q1 2023, with new job postings dropping by 2% over the previous quarter.

The other prominent ecommerce roles include Transportation and Material Moving Occupations with an 8% share in Q1 2023, Computer and Mathematical Occupations with a 6% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in apparel industry accounted for 60% of hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q1 2023 were Abercrombie & Fitch, Ascena Retail Group, Amazon, Skechers USA, and Rakuten Group. Together they accounted for a combined share of 60% of all ecommerce-related new jobs in the apparel industry.

Abercrombie & Fitch posted 8,305 ecommerce-related new jobs in Q1 2023, Ascena Retail Group 1,185 jobs, Amazon 1,184 jobs, Skechers USA 1,066 jobs, and Rakuten Group 819 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 70.48% share of total new job postings, Q1 2023

The largest share of ecommerce-related new job postings in the apparel industry in Q1 2023 was in the US with 70.48% followed by the UK (6.03%) and Japan (4.37%). The share represented by the US was two percentage points lower than the 72.60% share it accounted for in Q4 2022.
