Sales and Related Occupations drive apparel hiring activity

Sales and Related Occupations, with a share of 14% new job postings, was the occupation with the greatest hiring activity in the European apparel industry in Q1 2023 , ahead of Office and Administrative Support Occupations with a 7% share of new job postings.

The other prominent roles included Management Occupations with a 7% share in Q1 2023, Production Occupations with a 4% share and Transportation and Material Moving Occupations with a 4% share of new job postings.

Top five companies accounted for 60% of hiring activity

Tesco posted 18,253 jobs in Q1 2023 and registered a growth of 27% over the previous quarter, followed by Aldi Einkauf with 16,010 jobs and a 160% growth. J Sainsbury, with 7,019 jobs, and REWE Group, with 5,118 jobs, recorded a 12% rise and a 26% drop, respectively, while Wm Morrison Supermarkets recorded a 9% increase with a 3,924 new job postings during Q1 2023.

Regional analysis of hiring in the European apparel industry, Q1 2023

The UK held the leading share of the European apparel hiring activity with a 49.49% share, a 3% decrease over Q4 2022. Germany was next with 15.34%, four-percentage-point down over the previous quarter.
