Notably, Management Occupations jobs accounted for a 14% share of the global apparel industry’s environmental sustainability-related total new job postings in Q4 2023, down 5% over the prior quarter.

Management Occupations drive environmental sustainability-related hiring activity

Management Occupations, with a share of 14%, emerged as the top environmental sustainability-related job roles within the apparel industry in Q4 2023, with new job postings drop by 5% quarter-on-quarter. Sales and Related Occupations came in second with a share of 11% in Q4 2023, with new job postings dropping by 25% over the previous quarter.

The other prominent environmental sustainability roles include Computer and Mathematical Occupations with a 7% share in Q4 2023, Business and Financial Operations Occupations with a 5% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in apparel industry accounted for 98% of hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q4 2023 were Hugo Boss, VF, UniFirst, Levi Strauss & Co, and Ralph Lauren. Together they accounted for a combined share of 98% of all environmental sustainability-related new jobs in the apparel industry.

Hugo Boss posted 175 environmental sustainability-related new jobs in Q4 2023, VF 37 jobs, UniFirst 14 jobs, Levi Strauss & Co 9 jobs, and Ralph Lauren 5 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.

Hiring activity was driven by Germany with a 68.16% share of total new job postings, Q4 2023

The largest share of environmental sustainability-related new job postings in the apparel industry in Q4 2023 was in Germany with 68.16% followed by the US (19.18%) and Canada (4.90%). The share represented by Germany was 14 percentage points higher than the 53.74% share it accounted for in Q3 2023.
