Artificial intelligence hiring levels in the apparel industry rose to a year-high in January 2022

The proportion of apparel supply chain companies hiring for artificial intelligence related positions rose significantly in January 2022 compared with the equivalent month last year.

Three quarters (75%) of the apparel industry companies included in the analysis carried out the hiring of at least one artificial intelligence position in January 2022.

This latest figure was higher than the 50% of companies who were hiring for artificial intelligence related jobs a year ago and an increase compared to the figure of 56.2% in December 2021.

When it came to the rate of all job openings that were linked to artificial intelligence, related job postings rose in January 2022, with 1.6% of newly posted job advertisements being linked to the topic.

This latest figure was an increase compared to the 1.2% of newly advertised jobs that were linked to artificial intelligence in the equivalent month a year ago.

Artificial intelligence is one of the topics that GlobalData, from whom the data for this article is taken, have identified as being a key disruptive force facing companies in the coming years. Companies that excel and invest in these areas now are thought to be better prepared for the future business landscape and better equipped to survive unforeseen challenges.

The analysis of the data shows that apparel supply chain companies are currently hiring for artificial intelligence jobs at a rate lower than the average for all companies within GlobalData's job analytics database. The average among all companies stood at 2.9% in January 2022.
