Go AGOA! – sourcing from Southern Africa
The African Growth and Opportunity Act was signed into law on 18 May 2000. It enables the 14 countries in the Southern African Development Community to export apparel duty-free to the US, without quantitative restrictions, and to date around 1.5 per cent of total US exports have been supplied via this route. It is hoped that 3 per cent of US requirements will come from the region by 2008. In this feature, Richard Majewski presents five good reasons for sourcing from Southern Africa.
