Asia-Pacific witnessed a 3.2% drop in IT hiring activity in the apparel industry in May 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

May 2022 has seen a decrease of 1.13% in the overall hiring activity when compared with April 2022.

IT jobs accounted for a 10.84% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in May 2022, registering an increase of 0.12% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in May 2022

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in Asia-Pacific with a share of 73.47% in May 2022, a 21.63% drop over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in next, claiming a share of 12.37% in May 2022, marking a 2.11% month-on-month increase. In the third place was Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a share of 10.59% in May 2022, a 5.68% drop from April 2022.

Computer and Information Analysts registered a share of 1.53% in May 2022, a 36.84% decline over the previous month.

Top five apparel companies in Asia-Pacific’s IT recruitment activity in May 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 16.29% in the overall IT recruitment activity of Asia-Pacific’s apparel industry during May 2022 over previous month.

Amazon posted 606 IT jobs in May 2022 and registered a decline of 16.18% over the previous month, followed by Coles Group with 28 jobs and a 24.32% drop. Target with 26 IT jobs and JD with 24 jobs, recorded a 25.71% drop and a 27.27% drop, respectively, while Walmart recorded a 53.85% increase with 20 job postings during May 2022.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in Asia-Pacific’s apparel industry

India commanded a leading presence in the region’s apparel industry IT hiring activity with a 67.35% share in May 2022, a 19.76% decrease over April 2022. China featured next with an 11.73% share, down 33.33% over the previous month. Australia recorded a 7.65% share, a drop of 24.05% compared with April 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in May 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 53.57%, down by 23.36% from April 2022. Entry Level positions with a 32.4% share, registered a growth of 2.42% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with a 14.03% share, down 33.33% over April 2022.
