Canada’s apparel industry registered a 1.1% drop in IT hiring activity in May 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 35.6% in May 2022 when compared with April 2022.

Out of the apparel industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 25.49% share in May 2022, recording an increase of 7.46% over the last three-month average share.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 87.39% in May 2022, registering a 17.68% decline over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 6.16% share, an increase of 40% over the previous month.

3) Computer and Information Analysts held a share of 3.81%, registering a 62.5% rise from April 2022.

4) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations captured a share of 1.76%, down 50% over the previous month.

 

Top five apparel companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in May 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 12.56% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s apparel industry during May 2022 over April 2022.

Amazon posted 312 IT jobs in May 2022 and registered a drop of 10.34% over the previous month, followed by Loblaw Companies with 14 jobs and an 180% growth. Lululemon Athletica with 10 IT jobs and Rakuten Group with 3 jobs, recorded a 28.57% decline and a 57.14% decrease, respectively, while eBay recorded a decline of 87.5% with 2 job postings during May 2022.

Entry Level job postings dominate in May 2022

Entry Level jobs held a share of 45.45%, down by 9.36% from April 2022. Junior Level positions with a 41.64% share, registered a decline of 18.86% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with a 12.9% share, down 16.98% over April 2022.
