The global apparel industry noticed a 4.5% drop in IT hiring activity in July 2022 over the previous month, led by Amazon’s 72.51% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The apparel industry’s overall hiring activity increased 5.17% when compared with June 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 6.88% share of the global apparel industry’s hiring activity in July 2022, down 0.53% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of July 2022 were 12.67% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 43.81% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive apparel IT hiring activity
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 78.23% emerged as the top IT occupation in the apparel hiring activity in July 2022, a 19.58% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 11.29% in July 2022, down 25.3% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 4.08% share in July 2022, a decline of 36.18% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 3.93% share in July 2022 and a drop of 2.26% over June 2022.
Top five apparel companies by recruitment activity in July 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 19.51% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global apparel industry during July 2022 over June 2022.
Amazon posted 3,983 IT jobs in July 2022 and registered a drop of 20.78% over the previous month, followed by Walmart with 291 jobs and a 17.56% decline. eBay with 119 IT jobs and Target with 96 jobs, recorded a 13.33% growth and a 26.32% rise, respectively, while Inter IKEA Holding recorded a 28.79% drop with 94 job postings during July 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in apparel industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global apparel IT hiring activity in July 2022 with a 64.17% share, which marked a 20.79% drop over the previous month.
Asia-Pacific stood next with 17.26%, registering a 14.52% month-on-month decline. Europe was the third leading region with a 15.62% share and a 26.29% drop over June 2022.
In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 1.57% and a month-on-month drop of 20.37%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 1.38%, registering a 3.8% decrease over the previous month.
