Middle East & Africa witnessed a 3.5% drop in IT hiring activity in the apparel industry in July 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

July 2022 has seen a decrease of 5.3% in the overall hiring activity when compared with June 2022.

IT jobs accounted for a 16.79% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in July 2022, registering a decrease of 0.25% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in July 2022

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in Middle East & Africa with a share of 68.6% in July 2022, a 22.37% drop over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in next, claiming a share of 12.79% in July 2022, marking a 37.5% month-on-month increase. In the third place was Computer and Information Analysts with a share of 12.79% in July 2022, a flat growth from June 2022.

Miscellaneous Computer Occupations registered a share of 2.33% in July 2022, a flat growth over the previous month.

Top five apparel companies in Middle East & Africa’s IT recruitment activity in July 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 21.7% in the overall IT recruitment activity of Middle East & Africa’s apparel industry during July 2022 over previous month.

Amazon posted 56 IT jobs in July 2022 and registered a decline of 13.85% over the previous month, followed by Foschini Group with 13 jobs and a 13.33% drop. Inter IKEA Holding with 8 IT jobs and eBay with 4 jobs, recorded a 60% drop and a 33.33% rise, respectively, while Pick n Pay Stores recorded a 33.33% decline with 2 job postings during July 2022.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in Middle East & Africa’s apparel industry

South Africa commanded a leading presence in the region’s apparel industry IT hiring activity with a 43.02% share in July 2022, a 9.76% decrease over June 2022. Israel featured next with a 34.88% share, up 50% over the previous month. Niger recorded a 9.3% share, a drop of 60% compared with June 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in July 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 58.14%, down by 20.63% from June 2022. Entry Level positions with a 26.74% share, registered a growth of 53.33% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with a 15.12% share, down 56.67% over June 2022.
