The UK’s apparel industry registered a 21.3% drop in IT hiring activity in October 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 8.1% in October 2022 when compared with September 2022.

Out of the apparel industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 2.41% share in October 2022, recording a decrease of 1.2% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in the UK’s apparel industry’s IT recruitment activity in October 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 98.77% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s apparel industry in October 2022.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 55.83% in October 2022, registering a 36.36% decline over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 16.56% share, a decrease of 30.77% over the previous month.

3) Computer Support Specialists held a share of 12.88%, registering a 31.25% rise from September 2022.

4) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations captured a share of 8.59%, up 40% over the previous month.

Top five apparel companies in the UK’s IT recruitment activity in October 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 15.65% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s apparel industry during October 2022 over September 2022.

Amazon posted 62 IT jobs in October 2022 and registered a drop of 39.22% over the previous month, followed by ASOS with 20 jobs and a flat growth. John Lewis Partnership with 20 IT jobs and Asda Stores with 11 jobs, recorded a 13.04% decline and a 38.89% decrease, respectively, while Frasers Group recorded an increase of 175% with 11 job postings during October 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in October 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 70.55%, down by 28.13% from September 2022. Mid Level positions with a 21.47% share, registered a flat growth compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 7.98% share, down 27.78% over September 2022.
