The UK’s apparel industry registered an 8.0% drop in IT hiring activity in September 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 17.19% in September 2022 when compared with August 2022.

Out of the apparel industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 2.77% share in September 2022, recording a decrease of 1.14% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in the UK’s apparel industry’s IT recruitment activity in September 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 99.06% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s apparel industry in September 2022.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 65.73% in September 2022, registering a 10.26% decline over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 17.84% share, a decrease of 9.52% over the previous month.

3) Computer Support Specialists held a share of 8.92%, registering a 72.73% rise from August 2022.

4) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations captured a share of 4.69%, down 23.08% over the previous month.

Top five apparel companies in the UK’s IT recruitment activity in September 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 3.49% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s apparel industry during September 2022 over August 2022.

Amazon posted 99 IT jobs in September 2022 and registered a drop of 24.43% over the previous month, followed by John Lewis Partnership with 23 jobs and a 27.78% growth. Asda Stores with 18 IT jobs and Tesco with 14 jobs, recorded a 21.74% decline and a flat growth, respectively, while Zalando recorded a flat growth with 12 job postings during September 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in September 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 74.65%, down by 6.47% from August 2022. Mid Level positions with a 15.96% share, registered a decline of 24.44% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 9.39% share, down 35.48% over August 2022.
