Building on its relationship with US yarn maker Unifi, sewing and embroidery thread major American & Efird (A&E) has developed a new recycled polyester sewing thread using the Repreve recycled filament fibre and designed for use in athletic wear and high-performance apparel.
Magic using Repreve, a recycled, air-entangled, polyester sewing thread, provides a sustainable option for manufacturers in the sewing of performance apparel, activewear, athleisure, and intimate apparel, says A&E.
The move builds on the success of Perma Core using Repreve, a recycled core spun industrial sewing thread launched in March in partnership with Unifi, which turns plastic bottles into 100% recycled polyester fibre.

Commitment to sustainability is one of A&E’s company pillars. It recently expanded its number of Zero-Waste-to-Landfill facilities to 16, and joined the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) programme as a value chain affiliate.
