Sewing and embroidery thread major American & Efird (A&E) has unveiled a new line of molecular-tagged identification threads at this week’s Texprocess trade show in Frankfurt, Germany.
The new ‘Integrity’ line has been developed in collaboration with product authentication business Applied DNA Sciences (APDN).

The two companies announced plans to partner on a new anti-counterfeiting sewing thread platform in February last year.
Speaking at the time, APDN said it would utilise its CertainT platform to develop secure sewing threads for brand protection, helping assure brands and manufacturers that their products are authentic.
The company’s DNA-based platform can be used to identify, tag, test and track products to help assure authenticity, origin, traceability, sustainability, and quality.
“One of the big challenges brands face today centres around authenticity. Loss of revenue, reputation, and brand trust are some of the potential outcomes of counterfeit products,” says A&E president, Chris Alt.
