AUSTRALIA: Aywon Workers Still Owed A$3m Redundancy
250 textile workers formerly employed by clothing company Aywon International have still not received their entitlements from the government's redundancy scheme six months after the company's collapse. In all, 300 workers, many of whom gathered to protest in Melbourne yesterday, are owed about $A3 million from the federal General Employee Entitlements Redundancy Scheme, to which they submitted their applications in April. The scheme is meant to guarantee up to eight weeks of redundancy money when an employer collapses without providing for worker entitlements.
