Aware has announced the completion of the “world’s first” fully infield-traceable recycled polyester, after two years of rigorous testing and close collaboration with industry leaders Avient Corporation Shanghai and Zhejiang Haili Environmental Technology Co.

The key to this advancement lies in the Aware tracer, which can now be detected infield using the Aware hand scanner, providing brands and retailers an “unprecedented level” of transparency and traceability instilling confidence in the authenticity of recycled polyester products.

Zhejiang Haili Environmental Technology Co. and Wujiang Chaodai Textile Co. in China are set to offer recycled polyester filament yarn with the textile company’s tracer and additional spinners in Bangladesh and India to follow shortly.

Feico van der Veen, founder of Aware said: “Our vision has always been to maximise traceability to minimise our collective impact.

“This breakthrough represents a significant step towards a more sustainable future, where consumers can make informed choices, and brands can genuinely demonstrate their commitment to sustainability, now also for recycled polyester.”

The Aware Virtual ID for upcoming legislation

The company has also announced it is introducing a Digital Product Passport (DPP) for products made with its innovative recycled polyester yarn.

The passport aims to empower consumers to verify the authenticity of their purchases, aligning with the textile solution company’s mission to restore trust in sustainable textiles.

Aware states the Digital Product Passport (DPP) fully aligns with upcoming European Union (EU) legislation, including the EU Green Deal, ensuring that brands and manufacturers are prepared for the changing landscape of sustainability standards.

Additionally, the textile company shared that its partner XD Connects, a leader in the promotional goods industry, will be implementing Aware technology into their recycled polyester products next year.

In August, promotional products supplier, Gemline partnered with Aware to raise sustainability and transparency standards through a digital product passport in Gemline’s products.
