Fashion for Good, a global initiative trying to make fashion more sustainable, has launched what it claims is the world’s first comprehensive toolkit to get fashion brands, retailers and manufacturers started on the development of Cradle to Cradle Certified products.

The toolkit comprises a guide on developing Cradle to Cradle (C2C) Certified denim, with lessons learned by C&A and Fashion for Good while developing the first C2C Gold jeans.

Additionally, an Assessed Materials Almanac specifies materials and ingredients currently assessed for C2C certification with regards to material health. Previously this information was held by individual assessors, making it more difficult for brands and manufacturers to develop new C2C Certified products.

“By sharing inspiring new product development toolkits and guides, Fashion for Good is inviting everyone to come together now in collaborative advantage to co-create products that benefit people and the earth,” says William McDonough, chief executive McDonough Innovation and co-founder Fashion for Good.

The world’s first C2C Certified Gold denim jean was launched recently by C&A, and in the process of this development, the group says it was able to overcome a number of challenges.

The “Developing Cradle to Cradle Certified Denim” Guide highlights these key learnings and possesses practical solutions. With a strong representation of the practical supplier perspective, it offers guidance for manufacturers and brands looking to develop complex C2C garments.
