Calik Denim commits to UN Global Compact

By Hannah Abdulla

Turkish denim mill Calik Denim has become the latest signatory to the UN Global Compact to boost its sustainability efforts.

The platform, which claims to be the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative calls on firms to align their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption. The multi-year strategy of the UN Global Compact is to drive business awareness and action in support of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030

The Calik Group Companies join more than 9,800 participating companies from 161 countries in the UNGC platform – including Nike, Levi Strauss and VF Corp. Uniqlo-owner Fast Retailing joined the UNCG at the end of 2018. The signing ceremony took place at the 7th General Assembly of the Global Compact.

Calik Denim declared to have adapted its sustainability strategy to ten principles of UNGC under the main titles of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.
