CANADA: Chinese Firm To Open Textile Plant In Quebec
Worldbest Group, a state-owned company from China, is planning to install a textile plant Drummondville, Quebec. Reports from city planners indicated that the group had bid to purchase land in a new industrial park, and discussed supply contracts with Hydro-Quebec, the natural gas supplier. City council has approved the sale of the land and clearing has begun for a knitting and colouring plant that is estimated at $45m. The provincial government will contribute up to $4m. Drummondville lost about 400 jobs last year, following the closure of Celanese Canada and Cavalier Textiles. The new knitting facility is expected to create 380 new jobs.
