CANADA: Department Store Chain Launches Price Attack
Leading apparel retailer The Bay has upped the stakes in its battle with traditional department store rival Sears Canada Inc by slashing the prices of dozens of lines in its nationwide chain of stores. The price war, which will grow to about 300 items within a year, is more a response to the developing global trend of lower apparel prices than a reaction to a lacklustre economy, company president Marc Chouinard said yesterday.
