Crystal International has spent a year constructing and developing the new smart warehouse, which the company says supports its transformation to automation and system digitalisation.

With enhanced capacity and automation, the newly built 26m-high smart warehouse, occupying a 4,272m2 area and operating 24/7 service, enables the factory to store four million yards of fabrics and two million pieces of finished garments in order to cope with production growth.

With the installation of six stacker cranes for the unit-load automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS), the factory is able to set up in total 24 sets of racks with double deep arrangements for increased storage and higher productivity. Different conveyors are built to facilitate and optimise the inbound and outbound movements of the fabrics and finished goods.

The advanced technology and the latest AS/RS of smart warehousing links with the factory’s internal Warehouse Management System, providing accurate supply chain data in one easily accessible platform.

In addition to the flexible 24/7 operation and increased 100% storage volume, the automated warehousing system and the enhancement of logistics flow helps to minimise labour constraints, reduces 50% manpower and brings more efficient use of land space.

“Since the warehouse data is all stored in one system, the factory can have a better tracking of fabrics and finished goods inventory,” said Wendy Li, general manager, corporate logistics of Crystal International.

She continued: “All these bring additional value to the customers – the movement of materials is boosted, manufacturing process is also streamlined. Furthermore, the group places employee safety as the top priority. With the adoption of automated system and minimised human activities, this remarkable smart warehouse solution not only improves logistics performance, but also contributes to improved worker safety and lower risk of injury.”

Expanding smart warehouse solutions is the key to managing high-volume warehouse operations and complex supply chain logistics. Crystal International says it will continue to break ground on smart warehousing to optimise its usage and support the growth of the company’s production capacities in the coming years.
