Chinese viscose producer Sateri has collaborated with its first fashion brand partners to bring apparel featuring its new cellulosic fibre containing recycled content to the consumer market.

The firm has launched the Finex product brand for recycled fibre after claiming to have produced a new viscose fibre regenerated from textile waste on a commercial scale in March.

Sateri has since collaborated with its downstream yarn and garment manufacturing partners to bring the recycled fibre product to market.

Finex, short for ‘Fibre Next’, is described by the firm as an “innovative next-generation cellulosic fibre containing recycled content.”

Outdoor brand Lafuma has produced Finex apparel ahead of 618, China’s major mid-year online shopping festival, while independent Chinese designer Rico Lee will launch his line of Finex apparel next month.

“Like our flagship brand EcoCosy, Finex is made from bio-based natural fibres,” says Tom Liu, Sateri’s commercial vice president. “Innovation and technology have made cellulosic textile fibre recycling possible and Finex represents how nature not only renews itself but that products made from nature can also be regenerated. This, at its heart, is what circular fashion looks like.”

Sateri, a subsidiary of Royal Golden Eagle (RGE), operates five mills in China – Sateri Fujian, Sateri Jiangxi, Sateri Jiujiang, Sateri Jiangsu, and Sateri China – which have an annual production capacity of about 1.4m metric tonnes. 

In October of last year, RGE revealed plans to invest US$200m over the next ten years into cellulosic textile fibre research and development.

Last month, Sateri entered China’s lyocell fibre market after commencing production in Rizhao, Shandong in a move that broadens the firm’s portfolio and will bolster lyocell supply to the textile and non-woven markets.
