Five European apparel brands are taking the next step to improving working conditions in their manufacturing operations by becoming the latest members of the Fair Wear Foundation (FWF).

As an NGO, the Fair Wear Foundation has been working for many years to promote good working conditions in the countries where garment production takes place. As FWF members, Atelier Munro, Olymp, Hakro, Wrap London & Poetry, and Icebug, will have their production sites inspected by Fair Wear.

The organisation keeps track of the improvements made by the companies it works with. And by sharing expertise, social dialogue and strengthening industrial relations, it helps increase the effectiveness of their efforts. The multi-stakeholder initiative has over 130 members and a broad support base consisting of parties such as InRetail, Modint, CNV International, Mondiaal FNV and Clean Clothes Campaign.

“It is positive to note that despite this extremely difficult year, clothing brands are embracing social sustainability as an integral part of their business,” says Fair Wear director Alexander Kohnstamm. “It confirms that more and more brands are eager to change the industry for good, because they know that sustainable businesses are more resilient and more successful.”

Atelier Munro is a Dutch menswear brand, Olymp a German menswear brand, and Hakro is a German workwear brand. Meanwhile, Wrap London & Poetry is a British womenswear brand, and Icebug is a Swedish shoe brand.
