Lacoste has appointed the Paris-based Portuguese designer, Felipe Oliveira Baptista, as its new artistic director.

He succeeds Christophe Lemaire, whose move to French luxury brand Hermès was announced earlier this year. His final collection for Lacoste will be presented on 11 September in New York.

Baptista will have an expanded role on his predecessor, including oversight of the new L!VE line, brightening up Lacoste’s sportswear range and fulfilling the company’s ambitions in the women’s wear segment and also on international markets, particularly in China and the US.

His initial work for Lacoste will not be unveiled before September 2011 with the presentation of a summer 2012 collection.
