  • Morocco’s textile industry has revealed plans to create 250,000 jobs to take 1% of the global market share. The ‘Textile plan 2025’ aims to make the sector more attractive and generate MAD95bn (US$11.2bn) in exports, the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) noted. A total of MAD30bn is expected to be invested into the project. ANSA
  • Myanmar’s textile exports to Europe are set to jump after the ban on trade privileges was lifted in April, according to the Thailand Textile Institute. The country’s textile exports increased 18% to US$946m last year. Textile manufacturers in Thailand have relocated to Myanmar to benefit from the Generalised System of Preference (GSP), low wages and abundant labour. BANGKOK POST
  • Textile exporters in Pakistan have hit back at a four-day gas suspension in Punjab. According to the Pakistan Textile Exporters Association (PTEA), the shutdown is impacting productivity and the export shipment schedule. It added that demand for natural gas in the country has been rising 10% annually and warned the demand-supply gap may widen to 2,092m cubic ft per day in 2015-16 from 1,216m cubic ft per day in 2011-12.   • Quiksilver has opened its first store in Rangoon, Myanmar through a partnership with Sein Wut Hmon Company Limited (SWH Asia). The store is located in Kamayut Township and will sell apparel and accessories for men and women under its namesake, Roxy and DC Shoes brands.   • A training programme at garment and apparel maker in Ghana, Sleek Garments Export, has attracted production workers, production supervisors and production management staff in quality control standards and procedures. The training, which is a Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training, Skills Development Fund (SDF) project, aims to improve the quality of skills, production and competitiveness of the company.
